In our text today, Jesus heals a person who had been invalid for 38 years. He does this on Sabbath, nonetheless, drawing criticisms from many Jewish leaders. But Jesus shows that, as the Lord of Sabbath, he came to show mercy. Being merciful is more important than keeping the tradition of religion.
