In our text today, Jesus heals a person who had been invalid for 38 years. He does this on Sabbath, nonetheless, drawing criticisms from many Jewish leaders. But Jesus shows that, as the Lord of Sabbath, he came to show mercy. Being merciful is more important than keeping the tradition of religion.

In an unusual conversation with a Samaritan woman, Jesus offers the living water, through which she would never thirst again. He offers that water to any and all of us as well. How do we receive that living water and let it quench our thirst?
